      • Whether or not you are eligible for the classes that you want to take
      • How to enroll in them your junior year

  • Maintain good grades and study habits.

  • Update your file or start one if you haven't already. (See 9th Grade for a list of what it should contain.)

  • Continue thinking about the colleges you want to attend. Use the Find a College module to help look for schools. Once you have narrowed down the list of colleges and universities in which you are interested, start visiting the campuses; our Campus Tours section can also give you some valuable information.

  • Research different careers at the Career Center.

  • Continue extracurricular activities, since admissions officers look at students' extracurricular activities when considering them for admission.

  • Continue participation in academic enrichment programs, summer workshops, and camps with specialty focuses such as music, arts, science, etc.

  • Start preparing for the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE), the ACT and/or SAT.

  • Take the ACT PLAN test in the fall, normally in October or November. This is a valuable test to help you prepare for the ACT, which you can take during your junior year.

  • Take the PSAT in October as practice for the SAT you will take during your junior year.

  • Talk with your parents about any college savings programs they may have set up for you, including any prepaid tuition and/or college savings accounts. Make sure your college savings plan is keeping up with the increase in college tuition.
